Book Design
Heewon is a bilingual book that highlights the works of Jung Youngsun, a pioneering South Korean landscape architect who shaped modern landscape design and botanical planning in the country. The book features 55 of Jung’s projects, categorized by theme and cultural impact.
The visual identity extends beyond the book into a typeface, zine, poster, motion, and website. Circular forms were extrapolated from Jung’s sketches to create a consistent visual form–developed into a language and applied as a numerical system.

Project Description
Heewon is a multi-faceted design project that investigates the intersection of language, space, and cultural memory through typography, editorial design, and interactive media. At its core, Heewon is a bilingual book that documents the work of South Korean landscape architect Jung Youngsun. This project extends beyond the book into a cohesive design system that includes a modular typeface, a zine, an interactive website, and a series of AR & animated posters that each contribute to a layered storytelling experience.
Jung Youngsun (b. 1941) is Korea's first-generation landscape architect and the first woman licensed as a land development engineer. Her career, which has spanned half a century, parallels the history of Korean landscape architecture, which was introduced amid the land development wave of the 1970s.
Heewon encompasses Jung's oeuvres from her contributions as a graduate student in the 1970s to her most recent ongoing projects. The book brings together a wide range of archival materials that include pastel, pencil, and watercolor drawings along with blueprints, design plans, models, photographs, and videos. Presenting selected works under different themes, it shows the contexts, concerns, and artistic efforts behind the designs of natural environments within urban spaces.
